BEHIND THE SCENES: THE BOX STORY

News

”A container with a flat base and sides, typically square or rectangular, equipped with a lid, used to contain and keep various objects”

The etymology of its word comes from the Latin buxis, which is a transliteration of the Greek pyxis (a cylindrical box with a separate lid, originally used by women to hold cosmetics, trinkets or jewelers).

It is a resistant, recyclable and extremely versatile product, which characterizes our everyday life. Its invention dates back to 1817, and despite of the passage of time, it is still an excellent packaging solution for many fields. With this article we are taking you along all the life cycle of a box, as you can understand its value, but also the care and the attention paid by our team during its production.

  1. PLANNING, DESIGN AND SAMPLING

It is here that all begins: at this stage there will be defined the purpose of use, the dimensions, the type, the print, and all the other features of your box. The planning moment is truly important and delicate, every detail must be handled at best. Through specific programs, our team will create the most suitable design and graphic for your packaging. In this way, a first definitive sample of the project will come to life, as you can see with your own eyes the final result.

2.PRINT AND PAIRING

In pre-production, the print of the internal and external paper of the box is carried out. We adopt several printing techniques, such as hot pressing, offset and silk-screen printing. Then, the next step is the pairing one, in which the internal paper is glued to the cardboard.

3. DIE-CUTTING

The real production process of the box begins with the cut of the cardboard and the covering paper chosen. With exceptional precision, the die-cutting operation is giving the wanted shape to your box.

4. COVERING

At this phase, the bottom and the lid of the box take shape inside a sewing machine. At the same time, in the gluing machine, a glue coat is sticked to the covering paper. The latter, together with the cardboard skeleton, flows into a welder machine and successively, into a coating machine, in which thanks to special brushes and steel plates, the box is completely coated/wrapped. Once this operation is ended, the bottom and the lid, that are coming from two different production lines, will meet to be assembled.

5. STORAGE AND SHIPPING

Once ready, the boxes are carefully tied together and collected on pallets wrapped with a special film that protects them from UV rays. Alternatively, they are placed in packaging that can be reused in various ways by the customer. The boxes will then be stored until the pre-established deadline, or loaded directly into trucks and delivered to the customer.

6. RECYCLING

In accordance with our business philosophy based on the 3R of the Circular Economy, the production wastes, the boxes damaged by the handling, as well as the faulty and unused ones, are put into big containers for the disposal and the following recover.
